We're so excited to introduce Lisa and James from Illinois State University. Lisa graduated with a degree in Early Childhood Education and, James in Accounting and Finance. They got married in 2024!
KC: How did you meet? Where?
L & J: We first met in late August 2014. We lived in the same apartment complex and ran into each other in the parking lot one night. I was coming home from a night out with my roommates, and James was heading out with his. Our groups crossed paths, and we were all excited to meet our new neighbors. While we were introducing ourselves, James took my hand, kissed it, and said, “Hi, I’m James.”
KC: What significance does Illinois State hold for you?
L & J: Illinois State University holds a special place in our hearts. It’s not just where we received our education and built unforgettable memories—it’s also where our story began. Our love for ISU runs so deep that we chose it as the venue for our wedding in 2024.
KC: Do you think you would have ever met if it weren't for your school? Why or why not?
L & J: No, we probably wouldn’t have met. James grew up in the south suburbs of Chicago, and Lisa is from the north suburbs. Our lives were in completely different circles, so ISU was the only thing that brought us together.
KC: What's your favorite thing to do together? Why?
L & J: We love going to Chicago Blackhawks games together. James is a huge hockey fan, so for the past few years, we’ve made it a tradition to attend a few games each season with two of our closest friends. It’s always such a fun and memorable experience.
KC: What advice would you give incoming first-years about meeting other people and relationships/friendships?
Put yourself out there! You never know how or when you’ll meet someone who could become a big part of your life. Join clubs or organizations that interest you—it’s a great way to connect with others. Staying active and involved during your first year will help you adjust, make friends, and create lasting memories.
Huge thanks to Lisa and James for sharing their Love Story. We were giggling and kicking our feet the whole time! We can't wait to see what the future holds for you <3
