Meet Camille and Matthew from the University of Kentucky! Camille graduated with a double major in Integrated Strategic Communications and Digital Media Design, and Matthew in Media Arts and Studies and Marketing — talk about a power duo! Their story starts almost a decade ago at freshman orientation. . .

KC: How did you meet? Where?

C & M: We met at our freshmen orientation in July of 2018. We were actually in the same orientation group and they had split everyone into classrooms and we were in the same classroom. We were playing getting-to-know-games and we learned that we were in the same Living Learning Program (LLP) so we would be living on the same floor! We naturally became best friends.

KC: What significance does the University of Kentucky hold for you?

C & M: We both were out-of-state students and it was the most transitional time of our lives and we got to experience that together at UKY. It holds so many memories - it's even the midway point between both our hometowns (Chicago for him and Atlanta for me). And making those memories together at school as best friends will always keep Lexington in a special place in our hearts.

KC: Do you think you would have ever met if it weren't for your school? Why or why not?

C & M: We totally would have never met if it weren't for school! Matt is from Chicago and I am from Atlanta, I wasn't even looking at schools in Chicago at all. And UKY is a massive school and we just so happen to be in the same LLP! So we literally got to have multiple classes together first semester of freshman year, it honestly feels like fate haha

KC: What's your favorite thing to do together? Why?

C & M: We love trying new things, whether it's new food or traveling and exploring new places. There's just so much to see and it's such a blessing to be able to see that together and enjoy life's moments together.

KC: What advice would you give incoming first-years about meeting other people and relationships/friendships?

Building lasting relationships takes time; it doesn't happen overnight! Just allow yourself to be open and be vulnerable with others and meet them with kindness every step of the way. People who are meant to be in your life will be! And I think remember too, that every bond made, no matter how long it lasts, will always have been worth it - it will always have been worth it to put yourself out there as you're building your own community.

Major thanks to Camille and Matthew for sharing their chance encounter turned Love Story! We can't wait to see your love continue to grow (and what new places you explore next) <3
