College love is truly special—not only because it creates a lifelong connection, but because it’s rooted in the spirit of your school. Once intertwined, it's a bond that remains unbreakable. Did you find love in college? We can't wait to hear all about your College Love Stories (romantic, BFFs, generational and everything in between)!

We're so excited to share a story of romantic and generational love! We proudly present Ray and Sherry Kent from the University of Texas. Ray was a Business/Finance Major & Sherry was an education major (class of '70).

KC: How did you meet? Where?

R & S: His roommate was dating my sorority sister. Our sorority was having a party, and I had just ended a relationship with someone. My “sister” suggested I go with one of the roomies.  Our first date was at the Broken Spoke in Austin on January 9, 1970. We were engaged by Spring Break, and married on August 1!

KC: What significance does the University of Texas hold for you?

R & S:  We still attend all home football games, many away games, and all bowl games - season ticket holders for 54 years; proud parents to a Texas Longhorn grad (class of 1993) and grandparents to a granddaughter who will graduate with Honors from UT in May ‘25

KC: Do you think you would have ever met if it weren't for your school? Why or why not?

R & S: We would have never met otherwise- he’s from Tyler, TX & I’m from Houston, TX. Our paths would never had reason to cross. We do like to joke it was meant to be since we both graduated from high schools with the same name (2 years apart, though)!

KC: What's your favorite thing to do together? Why?

R & S: We enjoy traveling, getting together with our children’s families (a son & his wife, daughter & her hubby, and 4 grandchildren & 3 bonus granddaughters), and attending Longhorn games. Hook’Em!

KC: What advice would you give incoming first-years about meeting other people and relationships/friendships?

I personally would have been lonely had I not joined a sorority as an incoming freshman. Those initial friendships are special, and I still keep up with some of my “sisters!”

Thank you so much Ray and Sherry for sharing your timeless UT Love Story with us! We're so inspired and hope your love continues to grow for many years to come<3
