Meet Kyra and Jake from Kansas State University. Kyra graduated in 2024 with a degree in Communications and Jake graduated just last year with a degree in Computer Management Systems – talk about power couple!
KC: How did you meet? Where?
K & J: Jake and I met in a small group communications class the first semester of my junior year (his sophomore year). We were in the class for weeks together but never spoke till we were placed in a group project together. My husband later told me that he picked this class at random. It had nothing to do with his degree and he just needed to fill a requirement. The first time he asked me out was to a Kansas State football game tailgate. Where I ended up meeting many of his family members (very bold lol).
KC: What significance does Kansas State University hold for you?
K & J: Kansas State holds a huge place in our hearts and lives. It was the first thing we bonded over after meeting. Even now after leaving school we support our colors. Life took us out of Manhattan but we still wear our colors proudly!
KC: Do you think you would have ever met if it weren't for your school? Why or why not?
K & J: No, I do not believe we would have met if not for Kansas State. My husband was in the military before attending Kansas State. If he would not have attended Kansas State he would have probably stayed in the military. But even if he still got out we would not have met if I did not attend K-State. My husband was from the Manhattan area but I was not. So even if he didn't attend K-State he would have been in the Manhattan area, but I would have still been hours away. So it really is thanks to K-State that we found each other!
KC: What's your favorite thing to do together? Why?
K & J: I know it sounds so cliche but we love to do really anything together. From home improvement projects to watching tv. We just moved to a new town so we have been enjoying exploring together!
KC: What advice would you give incoming first-years about meeting other people and relationships/friendships?
My advice would be to be open. Be open to the class that you are just taking to fill a credit. Be open to the people around you! Step out of your bubble and meet new people. Don't hate on group projects but embrace meeting new people. You never know who you are gonna meet!
