We're so excited to present Dana Rose and Randall Scott Harland from the University of Michigan. Dana graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Dental Hygiene from the University of Michigan Dental School and Randall "Randy" with a Bachelor's degree in French from the University of Michigan LSA school.
They have been together for over 45 years and counting. So, strap on because this one's straight out of a movie!
KC: How did you meet? Where?
D & R: We "met" via the Michigan Daily. He put an ad in the paper and I answered it!
KC: What significance does Michigan hold for you?
D & R: The University of Michigan campus is where we met, fell in love and started our life together. At our wedding the Michigan fight song was played and amongst our many UM friends/roommates in attendance was a friend/UM basketball cheerleader. Our daughter got married a couple months ago and many of those same friends and roommates from Ann Arbor attended.
KC: Do you think you would have ever met if it weren't for your school? Why or why not?
D & R: We would have never met if not for the University of Michigan. I grew up in a Northern suburb of Chicago. Both my parents attended Michigan as did my older sister. Randy was the oldest of a Michigan Law graduate who worked for an international oil company. As a result Randy grew up overseas while his family moved to various foreign countries. Our paths would have never intersected if not for our family's connection to the University of Michigan and subsequently each of us landing on campus in Ann Arbor.
KC: What's your favorite thing to do together? Why?
D & R: We are huge maize and blue fans and continue to cheer on the football and basketball teams for over forty-five years together.
KC: What advice would you give incoming first-years about meeting other people and relationships/friendships?
College campuses are large, providing many opportunities. Embrace and explore as much as you are able. One never knows where or how you could meet new people in such an environment. If it weren't for the Michigan Daily, my husband and I would have probably never met on that expansive campus with non-intersecting academic pursuits. Go Blue! for life!
Huge thanks to Dana and Randy for sharing their Love Story with us. We can't wait to continue to see your love grow! <3
