5 Minutes With Track Star Jess, Tulane

5 Minutes With Track Star Jess, Tulane

Sep 20, 2018

Back to blog

Jess Adamson is the definition of a triple threat and makes even us - as female entrepreneurs, inspired to do more. Jess is a graduate of Tulane’s undergrad and MBA programs, an athlete and a successful fashion model. She embodies the KYLE CAVAN woman who is both stylish and substantial, and is a welcomed addition to the #CavanCrew.

What influenced you to choose Tulane and later to pursue your MBA at the Freeman School of Business?

I am Canadian, so venturing from Toronto to New Orleans was a big move. I was recruited by Tulane’s track team and was able to visit the campus in December of my senior year. I quickly fell in love with the weather, the track team, the beautiful oak trees, and the people. But, most importantly, Tulane’s business school has incredible opportunities for undergraduates. Not many undergraduate colleges allow students to major in such specific business subjects, but Tulane boasts five unique business majors. So, after receiving both an academic and athletic scholarship I knew Tulane was the right place for me.

What did you like most about attending Tulane and why?

Nothing compares to the experience of living in New Orleans for four or more years. The city, while still evolving, is a beautiful place with beautiful people. The spirit and soul of New Orleans are completely unique to the Tulane experience.

Where are you now, post grad?

After being in school for six years straight, I decided to take some time off to model and travel before settling into a career. Eventually, my hope is to combine my experience in the fashion industry with my business education in a marketing or management role.

What is one piece of advice that you would give an incoming freshman?

Freshman year is such a vulnerable time for everyone. I think it’s important to put yourself out there and meet as many people as you can. But, know that you’re not meant to click with everyone and you should never change for the benefit of anyone else.

Describe your personal style.

On a daily basis you can find me in vintage denim, a white tee and white converse. Don’t get me wrong, I like to dress up as much as the next person. But, comfort and simplicity are key for me.

Favorite Musician?

I am loving Leon Bridges right now. It is so special to be able to listen to his songs in New Orleans, as most of his songs reference some part of the city I have come to love.

Favorite New Orleans style food?

Is there really anything better than a beignet?!?
