Meet Abby Price, founder of Abbode in NYC and an Ohio State University graduate. What started as a purchase on a whim turned into a brand making embroidery personal. From monogrammed pouches and robes to custom embroidered patches, Abbode is designed to turn everyday items into personalized moments.
What Inspired Abbode?
I started out as an intern at Express. It gave me a lot of confidence and excitement for what was ahead! I started selling dried bouquets on Facebook back in 2019. In 2020 rent was cheap so I bought a storefront to start selling home items and florals. I bought the embroidery machine on a whim and without any expertise. I hosted an event at my store with embroidery and it was a huge hit. I knew i had something on my hands – and Abbode was born.
What's a Moment After Grad that Really Shaped You?
After graduation – Getting my first internship in NYC at Express was a huge moment for me. I had always dreamed of moving to New York and working in fashion, so finally getting that opportunity made everything feel real. It gave me a lot of confidence and excitement for what was ahead!
How has Your Idea of Success Changed Over Time?
When I started college, I thought success meant getting a traditional, impressive job. Over time, I realized success is really about building a career that excites you and feels meaningful, even if it’s unconventional or comes with risk, like starting your own business!
What's One Piece of Advice You Would Give Future Graduates?
Don’t stress so much about having everything figured out, or even about your major. College is really about discovering what you’re interested in, meeting people, trying new things, and gaining real-world experience through internships and extracurriculars. The connections you make and experiences you have end up shaping your path way more than the exact classes you take.
