10 Great Cavan Crew Comments on 'Back to School'
Yesterday while scrolling through my spotify playlists, I found one titled Freshman Spring 2017. It was filled with memories of walking to the dinning hall, studying in the library all night with my friends, and shifting through my roommate's closet as we got ready to go out. It was a randomly curated list of all of my favorite moments. It’s moments like these that have to be put on pause as students start going back to campus this year. Our Cavan Crew reflected on how they are feeling about going back to school, how their community will look, and how they are remaining hopeful in these 10 great comments.

I don't really believe in finding silver linings of the pandemic. The world is falling apart, we don't have to pretend like everything is okay. But I do know that this experience has solidified what parts my college experience really matters
On Community:
“Every aspect of back to school looked extremely different for me this year, except for my roommates who I am so thankful for.” - -Kayla Westergaard, Penn State Class of 2020
'I don't really believe in finding silver linings of the pandemic. The world is falling apart, we don't have to pretend like everything is okay. But I do know that this experience has solidified what parts my college experience really matters: my closest friends, peers, and classes that excite my curiosity. Those things have not gone away.' - Carrie Haynes, Tufts ‘21
“It's interesting because I've witnessed how our campus community has become stronger because of this pandemic, especially with upperclassmen. For those of us trying to remain as safe as possible, there is a shared sense of responsibility when it comes to holding ourselves and others accountable during this time. I can sense this desire from my friends who not only want to keep themselves healthy, but who also want to keep me healthy. There are new feelings of empathy, maturity, and support within our community which I sincerely appreciate.” - Caitlyn Park, Cornell ‘22
“I definitely feel for the freshman who are having to start classes and make friends during this time. I can’t imagine how hard it is! I think that everyone will come together to support each other in any way they can, but without normal activities where students usually bond, it's going to be hard.” - Kayla Michaud, Penn State ‘22
On Their School Precautions:
“I am comfortable with the precautions because I think it is important to ensure safety and protect each other. But, I just hope they don’t get revoked if people don’t follow the rules. There are a lot of guidelines and restrictions, but it’s going well so far because I think everyone realizes the severity of the school's decision. “ - Avery Schiffman, Washington & Lee ‘22
“I’m at an internship in Atlanta instead so I’m unaffected by hybrid classes. But UA has put minimal precautions in place and it’s quite scary because case numbers are going up. I have a fear of going back to Tuscaloosa currently.” - Bailey Ellege, University of Alabama ‘21
On a positive note, the world is my oyster this semester and I can truly study from anywhere
On Remaining Hopeful:
“On a positive note, the world is my oyster this semester and I can truly study from anywhere so my friends and I are considering different locations to study from and be together” -Nicolette fresco, Holy Cross ‘21
“Even though I have all online classes there still is a small sense of normalcy (being with friends and roommates etc.). Who knows what will happen this week, month or year. I think this school semester/bts is all about taking life day by day and making the best of the situation we are given. The University of South Carolina and the Athletics department are taking all of the precautions necessary to keep us safe and healthy.” - kelsey Oh, University of South Carolina ‘21
"The world may be upside down right now, but as different as it may be, we are still going back to class. I'm looking forward to finding a little normalcy as a venture into reading and turning in projects this fall." -Laiana
“I’m definitely nervous and trying to have some kind of hope for a normal senior year, but honestly, it’s a matter of making the most of it despite the circumstances” - Paige Kowal, Fordham ‘21
